In a very balanced match, Peru and Paraguay tied 1-1 dividing the points in the U-20 South American Qualifiers for the Fifa World Cup in Turkey.
The first half saw no real leader until Peru opened the count after a foul committed by Hinostroza. The talented young Peruvian Cristian Benavente threw a perfect center pass that found Araujo's head and ended as the first goal.
In halftime Paraguay bet towards an offensive change and incorporated Almiron and Dominguez for Ramirez and Montenegro. The Charruas began pushing forward, but had no luck and seemed to become exasperated. Peru took advantage of this and started pressuring offensively and was very close to finding the second goal, but soon after, coach Daniel Ahmed decided to care after the score, and ordered a six member defensive line.
At this point, Paraguay became purely offensive and finally got the equalizing goal in the 82nd minute leaving Peru 8 minutes away from achieving a victory that would allow them to continue fighting for the ticket to Turkey.
Paraguay now has 4 points and is the partial leader pending the result between Uruguay and Colombia.
